Ireland Removals Health and Safety Policy
Ireland Removals is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our moving and storage activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety risks associated with domestic and commercial removals, packing, handling, transport and related services.
Policy Statement and Objectives
The primary objective of this Health and Safety Policy is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our operations. We aim to continually improve our health and safety performance and to integrate safe working practices into every aspect of our removal services.
We are committed to meeting our legal obligations, following recognised industry best practice, and promoting a positive safety culture throughout Ireland Removals. Health and safety responsibilities form an integral part of the duties of all managers, supervisors and employees.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Ireland Removals has overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining this policy. Management will provide leadership, resources and support to ensure that health and safety is effectively managed across all removal projects, from initial survey and planning to packing, loading, transport and delivery.
Management will ensure that:
Health and safety risks are identified, assessed and controlled so far as is reasonably practicable.
Suitable procedures, safe systems of work and method statements are developed for removal activities.
Vehicles, lifting equipment, tools and materials are maintained in a safe condition and used correctly.
Supervisors are competent and understand their responsibilities for overseeing safe working practices on site and on the road.
Health and safety performance is monitored and reviewed regularly, and any deficiencies are addressed promptly.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees of Ireland Removals share a responsibility to safeguard their own health and safety and that of colleagues, customers and the public. Every team member is required to:
Follow company safety procedures, training and instructions at all times.
Use vehicles, lifting equipment and tools only for their intended purpose and in accordance with training received.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment provided by the company where required.
Report any hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, accidents or injuries immediately to a supervisor or manager.
Cooperate fully with health and safety initiatives, audits and investigations.
No employee will be disciplined for refusing to undertake work that they reasonably believe to be unsafe, provided that they report their concerns without delay.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Ireland Removals will carry out suitable and sufficient risk assessments for our activities, including but not limited to property surveys, packing services, manual handling, use of lifting equipment, loading and unloading vehicles, transport and delivery. Control measures will be implemented to reduce risks to an acceptable level.
Safe systems of work will be developed and communicated for tasks such as lifting and carrying furniture and boxes, dismantling and reassembling items, working in confined or restricted spaces, moving items on stairs, operating trolleys and lifting devices, and loading vehicles to ensure stability and security in transit.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a key part of our removal operations and is managed with particular care. Employees will receive specific training in safe lifting techniques, team lifting, use of handling aids and body mechanics to minimise the risk of strains, sprains and other injuries.
Mechanical aids such as sack trucks, dollies, moving straps and hoists will be used wherever appropriate to reduce manual effort. Only trained and authorised personnel may operate any specialised lifting or mechanical equipment. All equipment will be inspected and maintained on a regular basis.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Ireland Removals will ensure that all vehicles used in our removal services are roadworthy, regularly inspected and serviced. Drivers must hold the appropriate licence and are required to follow all road safety rules, including speed limits, loading limits and restrictions on driving time and rest breaks as applicable.
Loads will be planned, balanced and secured to prevent movement during transit and to protect both the goods being transported and other road users. Drivers must carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects immediately.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our removal teams work in a variety of environments, including homes, offices, retail units and other premises. We will take reasonable steps to protect customers, visitors and the public from risks arising from our activities.
This includes maintaining clear access routes, using warning signs where appropriate, safely managing cables, ramps and equipment, and taking care to avoid damage to property, fixtures and fittings. Where work takes place in shared or public areas, additional precautions will be taken to manage vehicle movements, parking and loading.
Training, Information and Supervision
Ireland Removals will provide appropriate health and safety training and instruction to all employees, including induction training for new starters and job-specific training for removal operatives, drivers and supervisors. Refresher training will be provided as necessary and when work practices or equipment change.
Supervisors will ensure that employees understand the risks associated with their tasks and the required control measures. Information on safe working procedures, emergency arrangements and reporting requirements will be communicated clearly and updated when needed.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, near misses and cases of work-related ill health must be reported promptly. Ireland Removals will investigate incidents to identify causes and to implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Emergency procedures will be in place for situations such as fire, serious injury, vehicle collisions and hazardous conditions on site or during transport. Employees will be informed of these procedures and their roles within them.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
Ireland Removals encourages open communication on health and safety matters. Employees are invited to raise concerns, suggest improvements and participate in safety discussions. Feedback from staff and customers is used to refine our procedures and enhance our safety performance.
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly, and whenever there are significant changes to our operations or applicable regulations, to ensure it remains effective, relevant and aligned with best practice in the removals industry.
